Who is Psalmist SylMac
Early Life and Calling
Psalmist SylMac (Sylvia Sawyerr) was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa. She is the second child of Annie and Jonathan Sawyerr. Since childhood, she felt a deep calling to spread the gospel through Praise and Worship. Her involvement in Youth fellowship solidified this calling, shaping her for future endeavors in singing and public speaking. Despite challenges, SylMac remained steadfast in her faith, guided by the Holy Spirit towards God’s plan for her life.
Education and Teaching Career in Sierra Leone
SylMac pursued her passion for music at Milton Margai Teachers College in Freetown, Sierra Leone. After graduation, she taught music at various schools including the Albert Academy and the Freetown Secondary School for Girls. Additionally, she served as a part-time teacher at King Harman Preparatory School. She nurtured young talents in singing folk songs, gospel, and hymns. Her dedication extended to volunteering, teaching gospel songs to women’s organizations across different churches. All while directing the choir at Bethel Temple Church.
Transition to the United States and Teaching
In 1992, SylMac relocated to the United States. She began her teaching career at a Montessori school in Anaheim, California. Over seven years, she shared her musical expertise with students, fostering a love for music. Alongside teaching, SylMac became an active member of the Melodyland Christian Center choir in Anaheim. Later, she joined Cottonwood Church in Los Alamitos. Her participation in church choirs brought immense joy, especially during Sunday morning services, becoming a cherished highlight of her week.
Leadership in Praise and Worship
Presently, SylMac leads Praise and Worship regularly on the Adonai Online Prayer Line. It’s a platform open to all, meeting daily from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Her unwavering commitment to spreading the message of Jesus Christ through music continues to inspire and uplift countless individuals worldwide.
Passion for Music Education
SylMac’s deep-rooted passion for music shines through her dedication to teaching and sharing this art form with others. With a focus on fostering emotional expression and igniting a love for music, she spent 14 years as a classroom music teacher in Sierra Leone. From directing choirs to mentoring church groups for competitions and celebrations, SylMac’s commitment to music education has left a lasting impact on her students and community.
Creation of The Adonai Prayer Line
In March 2020, amidst global uncertainty, SylMac was inspired to establish The Adonai Prayer Line, a daily one-hour call-in prayer service. This initiative quickly gained traction, attracting callers and listeners from across the United States, the United Kingdom, and East and West Africa. During each prayer session, SylMac leads a heartfelt 20-minute Praise and Worship session accompanied by piano chords, reflecting her profound love for the Lord and her desire to share her faith through music.

Through The Adonai Prayer Line, SylMac’s message of faith and devotion reaches a diverse audience spanning continents. Her genuine passion for spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, particularly through the medium of praise and worship, resonates deeply with listeners worldwide. SylMac’s unwavering commitment to nurturing spiritual growth and fostering a sense of community through music continues to inspire and uplift individuals from all walks of life.
